Mercedes-Benz Logo Meaning & History
Mercedes-Benz logo stands out among other car logos in the automobile market. Although the evolution of the logo comprises more than 120 years, most of its life it has been represented by today’s symbol – the triangle star. The first Mercedes sign came in 1902. It has the word ‘Mercedes’ written in white and surrounded by a black eclipse, which appeared on cars manufactured by Daimler, its predecessor. After a while in 1909, the brand introduced a new Mercedes-Benz emblem, the glorious star of three points. The three points of the star symbolize the dominance of Mercedes on land, air, and sea, as its products run in all three environments. The star logo began with golden color but changed to silver after seven years when the new star emblem was put into a circle with four little stars above the circumscription “Mercedes” on its bordure in 1916.

After competing with each other, Benz and Daimler merge together, which resulted in the formation of Mercedes-Benz and the actual trademark was finally developed in 1926. A silver star of three pikes surrounded with a bordering with laureate wreath and the brand name ‘Mercedes-Benz’ on it. The laurel wreath was taken from the Benz symbol, the three-pointed star from DMG. Since then the logo has experienced insignificant amendments, the bordering of laurel wreath morphed into an unpretentious circle.

The Silver Star logo with a simple circle first came in 2008. The silver color emblem is very typical of the Mercedes Benz logo and dates back to its involvement in the very first Grand Prix, which ran at Nuerburgring in 1934. When one of the cars exceeded its eligible weight for the race in the pre-race checks, the officials spent the night polishing off the paint so that the car was back to its raw silver color. That day the car ran around the track with beautiful silver color and was termed the “silver arrow.”
The current brand sign came in 2011 with just a minor modification. The most frequent colors used in the Mercedes emblem are black and silver. The black color depicts elegance, integrity, and purity whereas the silver color shows sophistication, creativity, and perfection.
