Nissan is a Public limited auto company with a Japanese origin. It was founded in the year 1933 and has its headquarters in Nishi-Ku in Japan. This multinational company adheres to a worldwide market and deals in automobile manufacturing along with providing financial services.

In the year 1999, Nissan and Renault, a French automaker, entered into a partnership to become a part of the Renault-Nissan Alliance. Nissan sells its vehicles under the brand name of Nissan, Datsun and Infiniti. Its product kit includes SUVs, trucks, minivans, family sedans and sporty coupes.

Overview

Initially, Nissan produced its vehicles under the brand name Dustan and its first vehicle was manufactured in the year 1934. It has manufactured an extensive range of mainstream vehicles like trucks and cars. In the year 1935, a construction plant at Yokohama was completed. It also built engines, airplanes, and trucks for the Japanese military.

Post-war, in order to establish its presence in the world market, the company went into an agreement with Austin Motor Company of UK. Although its initial production was for domestic consumption, later it started to export its vehicles to the world market. In the year 1958, America was floored with the first Datsuns on Austin platforms.

In the 1960s Nissan decided to collaborate with Prince Motor Company and created vehicles that were more focused on luxury. In the United States, it launched Datsun 510 sedan and by the end of the 60s, it had exported nearly one million vehicles. Datsun gained its maximum popularity with its sports car 240Z, in the early 1970s. This vehicle was coveted by consumers for its affordability, performance, and style along with its powerful engine of inline-six-cylinder. By the end of the 70s, cumulative export figures of the company had surpassed even their own expectations at nearly ten million marks.

In 1981, the company decided to shelve its Datsun name in favor of Nissan. It began selling its products now under Nissan’s brand name to the world market. During the 1980s, brand Nissan launched Nismo, a tuning division for developing accessories and performance-oriented vehicles. It constructed a plant in Georgia and started its production on American soil.

The early 1990s saw a rise in fortune for brand Nissan with vehicles like Sentra and Maxima. By end of 1990, the company was suffering from financial difficulties and its future seemed uncertain. In 1999 it entered into an alliance with Renault and redesigned Altima and Sentra with favorable results. It also introduced new models like Titan Pickup, Armada SUV and 350Z sportscar.
